Seoul City Deploys 10 Special Vehicles Sponsored by Hyundai Motor to Support Mobility for Children with Disabilities
Support Planned for 10 Welfare Facilities for Children with Disabilities in Challenging Mobility Environments
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government will hold a 'Mobility Support Delivery Ceremony for the Mobility-Impaired' on the 11th at the Seoul Culture Station 284, delivering 10 specially equipped vehicles for the disabled in cooperation with Hyundai Motor Group and the Seoul Association of Welfare Facilities for the Disabled.
The ceremony will be attended by Lee Byung-hoon, Executive Director of Hyundai Motor Group, Kim Sang-gyun, Secretary General of the Community Chest of Korea, and Kim Seon-soon, Director of Seoul Welfare Policy Office, among others.
This event is part of the 'Sponsorship Program for the Disabled,' promoted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Association of Welfare Facilities for the Disabled to support disabled people in need by discovering private and corporate sponsors and partners. Hyundai Motor Group will deliver 10 specially equipped vehicles for the disabled, each equipped with wheelchair ramps, worth 250 million KRW to the Seoul Association of Welfare Facilities for the Disabled.
The Seoul Association of Welfare Facilities for the Disabled will provide the 10 sponsored specially equipped vehicles to 10 welfare institutions for disabled children selected through applications from residential facilities for disabled children in the Seoul and Gyeonggi regions. The specially equipped vehicles were selected considering the current vehicle ownership and usage plans of welfare institutions for disabled children and youth.
Previously, the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Hyundai Motor Group, and the Seoul Association of Welfare Facilities for the Disabled also delivered 10 specially equipped vehicles to residential facilities for disabled children last year. Nam, a 9-year-old child who is practicing walking at a residential facility after knee joint flexion deformity surgery and received a specially equipped vehicle last year, said, "It is convenient and good to ride the 'White Car' (specially equipped vehicle) because I can get on and off the car directly while in my wheelchair when going to school," and expressed gratitude to those who provided the vehicle.
