Seoul Announces First GED Passers of the Year... Oldest 84, Youngest 11

[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Among the first passers of the elementary, middle, and high school equivalency exams managed by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education this year, the oldest was 84 years old, and the youngest was 11 years old.
On the 11th, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education announced the passers of the first 2021 equivalency exam. A total of 4,968 people applied for this exam, 4,323 took the test, and 3,703 passed. The pass rate was 85.65%.
The oldest passers were all women in their 80s: Jang Myeongja (84 years old) for elementary school level, Kim Geumja (84 years old) for middle school level, and Shin Sukja (80 years old) for high school level. The youngest passers were Choi Jaewon (11 years old) for elementary school level, Yoo Chanhee (12 years old) for middle school level, and Ahn Woosang (12 years old) for high school level.
Kim Geumja was the oldest elementary school level passer last year, Yoo Chanhee was the youngest elementary school level passer in the first exam last year, and Ahn Woosang was the youngest middle school level passer in the second exam last year.
Two self-quarantined candidates who took the equivalency exam took the test at a separate testing site and both passed. Lee Eunji (30 years old), a bedridden disabled person who took the exam through the 'Visiting Equivalency Exam' service implemented by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education since 2018, also passed the middle school equivalency exam with excellent results.
Certificates of passing, transcripts, and subject passing certificates can be issued after the announcement of the passers by logging in with the personal joint certificate (formerly public certificate) on the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education's Home Edu Civil Service. They can also be issued through the administrative offices of elementary, middle, and high schools or the civil service offices of education support centers.

Passing certificates will be issued at the entrance on the 3rd floor of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 11-12. Postal issuance is also available upon request.
