Government Supports Content Production Focused on OTT and New Technology-Based Platforms
186.8 Billion KRW Invested in 65 Selected Works Through Public Contest
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency announced on the 10th that they will provide 18.68 billion KRW in funding to sixty-five selected content projects through a public competition. This amount represents a 24.9% increase compared to last year. They will allocate 5.84 billion KRW to the general category, 2.95 billion KRW to the new media category, 1.5 billion KRW to the OTT-specialized category, 4.6 billion KRW to the new technology-based category, and 3.79 billion KRW to the broadcasting format development category, respectively.
In the newly established OTT-specialized category, six projects were selected, including Watcha’s documentary "Forward: Beyond the Runway," Wavve’s variety show "3GO Project," and KakaoTV’s drama "Love & Wish." In the new technology-based category, twelve projects utilizing mixed reality (XR) and augmented reality (AR) received support. These include the drama "Searching for the Timeless Romance Season 1: Chunhyangjeon" and the documentary "The Joseon People with Blue Eyes, What They Saw." The broadcasting format development category includes seven projects such as "Dancing in the Box" and "Daesorum."

In the general category, considering the expansion of documentaries in the OTT market, a series category was newly established in addition to the existing feature-length and short films. Two series, "The End of the World, Two Nights" and "Humans Behind Humans, Post Human," will receive 400 million KRW over two years. Support for one-act plays has also been strengthened. In particular, ten projects, including "Witch Shop Season 2" and "Midnight Cafe: Missing Honey (working title)," which are designed for online distribution, will receive up to 190 million KRW each.
