Gwangju City Selected as Suitable Project for Smart Specialization Infrastructure Development Program
Promotion of Core Equipment Construction Project for Intelligent Power Systems
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 6th that the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy has finally selected the "Intelligent Power System Industrialization Support Project for Urban Green Energy Production, Consumption, and Supply," planned by Gwangju City and the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute, as a newly suitable project for 2023 under the "2022 Smart Specialization Infrastructure Construction Project."
The intelligent power system is a next-generation energy system that connects renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power to the KEPCO power grid, enabling two-way, real-time distribution of electricity production, consumption, and supply, including peak power reduction, power trading, and demand management.
This project supports companies related to intelligent power systems by establishing equipment infrastructure and an operational technology platform for industrialization, providing services such as power converter performance verification, test evaluation certification support, prototype production, technical guidance, and workforce training.
It is expected to contribute to creating new jobs and achieving the "Energy Self-Reliant City RE100" by establishing a test base that can lead the domestic intelligent power system market.
The Smart Grid Research Headquarters of the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute will lead the project, with a total budget of 8.6 billion KRW, including 6 billion KRW in national funding.
