Visit to Gwangjin Senior Welfare Center and Jayang Comprehensive Social Welfare Center Senior Dining Hall for Parents' Day: Appreciation Greetings and Support with Special Meals and Quarantine Supplies Set
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the 6th, Kim Seon-gap, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, visited the elderly dining hall at Jayang Comprehensive Social Welfare Center to express gratitude to the elderly in celebration of the 49th Parents' Day.
This visit was arranged to personally check on the difficulties faced by the elderly and convey appreciation and respect, as all Parents' Day-related senior events held annually were canceled due to COVID-19.
Mayor Kim expressed his thanks for Parents' Day to the elderly who came to the dining hall to receive free meals and took time to inquire about their well-being.
The district had suspended the operation of senior dining halls at Gwangjin Senior Welfare Center and Jayang Comprehensive Social Welfare Center to prevent the spread of COVID-19, but once or twice a week, substitute meals for 3 to 6 days are distributed at the entrance after temperature checks and hand sanitization.
Also, to maintain social distancing, substitute meals are delivered in groups of fewer than 20 people at 30-minute intervals.
Mayor Kim said, “Although various events such as senior banquets have been canceled for safety, I felt uneasy thinking about the elderly spending Parents' Day alone, so I came to visit. Please strictly observe the ban on private gatherings of five or more people, and if you have symptoms, get tested immediately to protect the health of the elderly and the safety of families and neighbors.”
On the 6th, in celebration of Parents' Day, the district provided special meals in addition to the existing substitute meals and also delivered COVID-19 prevention kits (masks, hand sanitizers).
Prior to this, on the 3rd, Mayor Kim also visited Gwangjin Senior Welfare Center to spend time expressing gratitude to the elderly.
Mayor Kim Seon-gap said, “Although large events cannot be held again this year due to COVID-19, I could not let Parents' Day pass without preparing special meals at the senior dining hall to express respect and gratitude to the elderly. As the Talmud says, ‘Old age is the golden period for the wise,’ I will listen to the wisdom of the elderly, which is like gold, and strive to create a society where the elderly are happy.”
