Minbyun: "4 Years of Moon Administration, Reform Has Stalled... Prosecutorial Reform Loses Momentum Amid Political Strife"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The Lawyers for a Democratic Society (Minbyun) criticized that "reform has come to a halt" in an evaluation report on national policy tasks published on the 6th to mark the 4th year of the Moon Jae-in administration.
In this report, Minbyun evaluated the progress of President Moon's 100 major national policy tasks by dividing them into six categories: ▲constitutional amendment and electoral system ▲power institutions ▲labor ▲gap relations ▲chaebol reform ▲real estate.
In particular, regarding prosecution reform, it pointed out that "the Minister of Justice and the Prosecutor General are engaged in political strife under the pretext of democratic control of the prosecution and independence in investigations of the administration, which has led to the reform necessity of protecting human rights and establishing fair investigative procedures being overshadowed and the reform momentum declining."
It also added, "There is criticism that the excessive politicization pushed by the dismissal of the Prosecutor General neglects public livelihood and excessively focuses national affairs only on prosecution reform, which is the main concern of the active supporters of the Moon Jae-in administration."
Regarding the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) scandal, it diagnosed that "in a situation where public dissatisfaction was already high due to the rapid rise in housing prices, a major speculation suspicion case broke out, causing a huge impact."
It then pointed out, "Contrary to the Moon Jae-in administration's policy statements emphasizing 'speculation suppression' and 'procedural fairness,' it was revealed that structural reform tasks in real estate and the public service sector were not sufficiently carried out."
Minbyun stated, "The Moon Jae-in administration itself shows a tendency to operate the economy conservatively and focus on prosecution reform and media reform, which are the concerns of its active supporters," and criticized, "The diagnosis that 'since some reform legislation has been promoted and fair economy has been pursued to some extent, it is now time to promote innovation economy reform' is greatly disconnected from public sentiment."
