This year marks the fourth consecutive year that IKEA has participated in the international relief and development NGO Save the Children's 'Protect the Playground' project, leading efforts to improve children's play environments and raise awareness of children's right to play. Over the past three years, it has improved play environments at Buhung Elementary School in Incheon, Naengcheon Elementary School in Goyang, and Gongse Elementary School in Yongin.
This year's donation will be used to create a play space at Wolpyeong Elementary School located in Gijang-gun, Busan. Through online and offline child participation design workshops, the opinions of Wolpyeong Elementary students regarding the play environment were actively reflected. Employees from IKEA Dongbusan store also participated in the design process, planning to contribute to creating a safe and fun play environment and protecting the right to play.
IKEA Foundation, the social contribution organization, operates the 'Joyful Playground, Our Home' campaign to protect children's right to play, and as part of this, holds an annual soft toy drawing contest. The winning design is produced as the SAGOSKATT collection and sold as a limited edition at IKEA stores worldwide. Since 2018, IKEA Korea has donated the proceeds to Save the Children's Protect the Playground project.
