[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] Kim Sang-hwan, a Supreme Court Justice, has been appointed as the Chief of the Court Administration Office, responsible for judicial administration including court personnel, budget, and accounting.
According to the Supreme Court on the 7th, Chief Justice Kim Myung-soo appointed Justice Kim as the successor to Cho Jae-yeon, the current Chief of the Court Administration Office, effective from the 8th.
The new Chief Kim graduated from the Judicial Research and Training Institute as part of the 20th class and was appointed as a judge in 1994. He has since served as a Supreme Court Research Judge, Senior Presiding Judge of Jeju District Court, Research Judge dispatched to the Constitutional Court, Presiding Judge of the Changwon Branch of Busan High Court, Presiding Judge of Seoul High Court, and Senior Presiding Judge of Civil Division 1 at Seoul Central District Court. He was appointed as a Supreme Court Justice on December 28, 2018.
The Supreme Court explained that he is proficient in judicial practice, having handled various duties at courts of all levels.
A Supreme Court official emphasized that the new Chief Kim is "the right person to lead judicial reform through communication with court members and various sectors of society, based on leadership grounded in respect and harmony."
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court will hold a farewell ceremony for Cho Jae-yeon, the outgoing Chief of the Court Administration Office, on the 7th. Cho is scheduled to return to judicial duties as a Supreme Court Justice starting from the 8th. He served as Chief of the Court Administration Office for 2 years and 4 months since January 11, 2019.
