Gwangju City Distributes Information and Communication Assistive Devices to Disabled Persons with Disability Grade Certification
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 29th that it will distribute information and communication assistive devices to bridge the information gap for people with disabilities who face difficulties accessing and utilizing information and communication due to physical and economic conditions.
Information and communication assistive devices are auxiliary devices designed to help people with disabilities conveniently use various information devices, including computers.
The target recipients are registered disabled persons under the “Disabled Welfare Act” residing in Gwangju and those who have been assessed with disability grades under the “Act on the Honorable Treatment and Support of Persons of Distinguished Service to the State,” with a total of 120 units planned for distribution.
The distribution items include 116 types: ▲ 60 types for visually impaired persons such as screen reading software (SW), reading magnifiers, and braille information terminals ▲ 24 types for physically disabled and brain lesion disabled persons such as special keyboards, special mice, and touch monitors ▲ 32 types for hearing and speech impaired persons such as video phones, voice amplifiers, and speech training software (SW).
Applications can be submitted from the 1st of next month until June 18th by preparing the required documents and applying by mail or in person at the Gwangju Information Strategy Office. Online applications are also available on the Information and Communication Assistive Devices website.

Gwangju City will select the final recipients through document evaluation, in-depth consultation, and expert review, and plans to announce the distribution recipients on the Gwangju City website on July 16th.
Recipients will receive support covering 80% of the assistive device product price. However, for low-income disabled persons such as basic livelihood security recipients and near-poverty class who have difficulty purchasing devices due to economic conditions, 90% support will be provided.

The “Information and Communication Assistive Devices Distribution Project” has been implemented since 2009 to provide assistive devices tailored to disability types, facilitating easier access to various information and expanding opportunities for economic and social participation and improving the quality of life for people with disabilities. A total of 1,666 units have been distributed up to last year.
