[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Jungma-dong in Gwangyang City, Jeollanam-do, along with 13 organizations and social groups, recently announced on the 28th that they conducted joint public-private COVID-19 prevention activities throughout Jungma-dong.
Over 400 members of 12 social groups and public officials carried out simultaneous disinfection and sanitation over two days at multi-use facilities such as Jungma Terminal, Jungma Market, neighborhood parks, plazas, local sports facilities, walking trails, public restrooms, as well as entrances of city shops and restaurants.
On the 24th, six organizations including the Jungma-dong Resident Center, Jungma-dong Sports Association, Jungma Youth Association, Jungma Volunteer Crime Prevention Unit, Dong Gwangyang Merchants Association, and Gwangyang Bay Merchants Association took charge of disinfection activities, while on the 26th, seven groups including the Jungma-dong Development Council, Jungma-dong Barugesalgi Council, Jungma-dong Private Social Safety Network, Jungma-dong Saemaeul Leaders Council, Jungma-dong Saemaeul Women’s Association, and Jungma-dong Neighborhood Association each took responsibility for their respective areas.
This activity was conducted proactively to respond to local transmission and a potential large-scale outbreak caused by mass infections occurring in neighboring local governments since April.
Park Sang-hoon, head of Jungma-dong, expressed deep gratitude for the efforts of the 12 social groups who took the lead as guardians of public health during this anxious time caused by cluster infections in nearby municipalities. He added, “The vaccination campaign within Jungma-dong to overcome COVID-19 began on the 26th for seniors aged 75 and older, making the prior disinfection activities even more meaningful.”
