At the award ceremony held at Coupang's Incheon Camp that day, Choi In-seok, Executive Director of Coupang's HR Division, praised Choi for his contribution to the safety of customers and the local community.
On the 22nd, around 12:15 a.m., Choi witnessed a fire breaking out in a building across the street while performing delivery work near Bupyeong-dong, Incheon. Choi immediately stopped the delivery work, reported to 119, and rushed to the scene to extinguish the initial fire. When the 119 fire brigade arrived, he calmly handed over the situation, confirmed that the fire was extinguished, and then returned to work.
Choi said, "I thought it was important to prevent the fire from spreading and causing damage even if the next delivery departure was delayed," adding, "I just did what I was supposed to do, so I feel embarrassed to receive a commendation."
At the ceremony, a letter of appreciation was also awarded to Coupang Flexer Kim Hak-ryeol, who protected a woman in danger during early morning delivery.
On the 26th of last month, around 1:30 a.m., Kim, who was working on delivery duties as a Coupang Flexer in Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province, heard a woman's scream, stopped delivery, reported to 112, and protected the woman from a man wielding a weapon. Kim persuaded the man until the police arrived, explained the situation to the police, and then returned to work.
Kim said, "At the time, I thought I was just doing what was natural, but I received encouragement from many people unexpectedly," adding, "I am glad that my small action was appreciated."
