Yangcheon-gu Operates 'Haewoori Village School' as a Learning Center for the Whole Community
Operation of Village After-School Classes with Learning and Rest for Elementary Students... Focus on Closing Learning Gaps and Improving Basic Academic Skills Due to Online Learning
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) will operate the Haewoori Village School (village after-school program), where elementary school students in the area learn and grow within the village, from March to December.
Since 2016, as part of the Yangcheon Innovation Education District project, the district has been running various village after-school programs focused on creative experiential activities by utilizing idle village spaces such as community centers and small libraries, as well as village instructors.
This year, the programs include ▲ village after-school programs using Yangcheon village-school linked educational content ▲ Songpoyu Children's Choir ▲ Yanghyeondang (Yangcheon Village Seodang) ▲ Exciting Playground ▲ and village after-school programs aimed at improving basic academic skills.
Each program is conducted while adhering to COVID-19 prevention guidelines such as social distancing, hand sanitization, and mask-wearing, and appropriately combines face-to-face and non-face-to-face methods depending on the social distancing level.
The Songpoyu Children's Choir, which allows interactive communication online, uses Naver Band, enabling instructors and students to conduct lively real-time classes, and various village after-school classes are also held offline.
The district has planned Yanghyeondang (Yangcheon Village Seodang), a Seodang experience program where students learn traditional etiquette and the wisdom of ancestors, and Exciting Playground, an integrated play activity held at the Gyeongin Children's Playground in Sinwol 3-dong, providing students with diverse after-school programs.
In particular, as a new program in 2021, to address learning loss and academic gaps among students during the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, a ‘Village After-School Class for Improving Basic Academic Skills’ was established, focusing on low-income students to enhance their learning abilities. Detailed information about the village after-school programs, which recruit students quarterly, can be found on the district’s website notices or by contacting the Education Support Division of the district office.
