[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] The Ministry of Justice announced that it may suspend prosecutors suspected of receiving alcohol entertainment from former Star Mobility Chairman Kim Bonghyun.
On the afternoon of the 27th, Ryu Hyuk, the Inspector General of the Ministry of Justice, stated at a briefing held at the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office, "When requesting disciplinary action from the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, a suspension from duty must be requested, and immediate measures should be taken."
Inspector Ryu said, "Generally, if the matter concerns the fairness and integrity of duty execution, even if the parties dispute it, it is better for the individual, the organization, and the country to exclude them from duty," adding, "(The Ministry of Justice) will take action."
According to the Ministry of Justice, three prosecutors who previously denied attending the drinking party during the prosecution investigation phase all admitted to it during the Ministry of Justice's inspection phase. Inspector Ryu explained, "I cannot disclose specific inspection details now," but added, "It has become a situation where the case can be handled cleanly without additional controversy."
Regarding the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office indicting only one of the three prosecutors without detention, he said, "The Southern District Prosecutors' Office did their best," and added, "It cannot be said at all that they are protecting their own."
