"Joint Inspection of Han Myeong-suk Case Not for Punishment"... Ministry of Justice "Will Create Effective Improvement Plan"
[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] The Ministry of Justice, currently conducting a joint inspection with the Supreme Prosecutors' Office regarding the 'allegation of witness tampering in former Prime Minister Han Myeong-sook's case,' announced that it will "develop effective and future-oriented improvement measures."
On the 27th, the Ministry of Justice held a briefing on the joint inspection at the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office in Seocho-dong, stating, "This joint inspection is not intended to revisit the substantive judgment or to discipline those involved."
The Ministry of Justice and the Supreme Prosecutors' Office held their first joint meeting for the inspection at the end of March under the direction of Minister of Justice Park Beom-gye. On the 20th, they also completed the first report to Minister Park regarding improvements in the prosecution's direct investigation methods and organizational culture.
On this day, the Ministry of Justice explained, "The purpose of the joint inspection is to thoroughly diagnose various issues related to the prosecution's direct investigations and organizational culture revealed during the process, and to prepare effective and future-oriented improvement measures so that the prosecution can be reborn as an organization trusted by the public."
Regarding the issue of disclosure of suspect information, it was stated, "There have been repeated incidents of leaks to specific media outlets, including the unauthorized disclosure of confidential meeting contents related to the handling of complaints in former Prime Minister Han's case, as well as leaks of investigation processes or suspect information in specific cases." It was further emphasized, "If internal information is actively and proactively leaked to achieve investigative purposes, it causes serious human rights violations to the investigation subjects and must be strictly prohibited."
