Gwangju University Operates 'Experiential Local Challenge' to Strengthen Major Competencies
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Gwangju University announced on the 27th that it will operate the ‘2021-1 Semester Local Challenge’ program where seniors and juniors participate together to enhance the major competencies of enrolled students.
This program was prepared to support the spirit of challenge, creativity, and problem-solving processes necessary for nurturing talent required in the 4th Industrial Revolution.
Gwangju University is conducting an experiential Local Challenge program with students from the same major ranging from 1st to 4th year, expecting it to help with exchanges between seniors and juniors, self-achievement, and strengthening competencies needed for employment.
As part of the University Innovation Support Project, last year’s Local Challenge program saw participation from three teams including the Department of Hotel Tourism Management and the Department of Hotel Culinary Arts, sharing various experiences.
Hwang Jong-hyun, a 3rd-year student of the Hotel Tourism Management Department Traveler team, who studied tourism products and management strategies to revitalize local tourism in Tongyeong City, said, “Through the Local Challenge program, I gained confidence in participating in contests on ways to activate regional tourism.”
Lee Jeong-hwan, a 2nd-year student of the Department of Hotel Culinary Arts Chef’s Road team, emphasized, “Visiting Jeju tangerine experience farms, markets, hotels, and observing international cooking competitions inspired me to dream of growing into a culinary professional leading the dining culture.”
