On the 27th, the People’s Party held a closed Supreme Council meeting at their Yeouido headquarters, where they discussed whether to merge with the People Power Party and ultimately agreed to move forward with the merger.
After the Supreme Council meeting, Ahn Cheol-soo, leader of the People’s Party, told reporters, “The Supreme Council members agreed to pursue a principled integration,” adding, “Based on the opinions gathered from party members and the discussions held at the Supreme Council, I will meet with Joo Ho-young, acting leader of the People Power Party, to discuss this matter.”
He explained that a survey targeting all party members would be conducted during the merger process. Ahn said, “A vote or public opinion poll among all party members will be necessary during the integration process,” and added, “We can conduct this internally within our party during the process.”
Regarding detailed matters such as the party name and timing of discussions, he stated, “I will discuss these with Acting Leader Joo.”

When asked about the direction of internal public opinion, he explained, “We have consistently pursued a centrist and pragmatic approach, and there are innovations we believe are essential for regime change,” adding, “The five key values we cherish for innovation are ‘competence, morality, fairness, national unity, and a future for youth.’”
