Recruitment of Participating Organizations for Architectural Design Talent Development Project Starting from the 17th of Next Month
Support for Practical Training Expenses of Domestic Architectural Offices, Exhibition and Workshop Costs
[Asia Economy Reporter Kangwook Cho] The government will recruit institutions to participate in a support project that cultivates outstanding talent in the field of architectural design starting from the 17th of next month. The recruitment target is domestic universities (graduate schools) accredited for architectural education, and a total of 1.3 billion KRW will be provided to subsidize the labor costs of students undergoing practical training at architectural firms.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 27th that it will recruit participating institutions (schools) for the architectural design talent development project, which supports the costs of practical training at domestic architectural firms so that young architects can enhance their architectural design capabilities through various training.
The architectural design talent development project is an education and training support program promoted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport since 2019, which has supported overseas training expenses for young architects to learn various design techniques at overseas design offices or research institutions.
Since last year, various architecture-related activities such as international design competitions and participation in overseas exhibitions have also been added to the support. However, due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, overseas training has been delayed and participants have faced difficulties in overseas activities. Therefore, starting this year, a domestic program has been prepared to allow young architects to enhance their architectural design capabilities through practical training at domestic architectural firms.
Among universities (graduate schools) accredited for architectural education in Korea, participating institutions will be recruited to subsidize the labor costs of students undergoing practical training at architectural firms. The total scale is 1.3 billion KRW, and support will be provided differentially from 33 million KRW to 192 million KRW per school, considering the size of the department.
About 20 schools will be selected by evaluating submitted documents, presentations, project execution capabilities, excellence of industry-academia cooperation networks, and appropriateness of talent selection. To support more diverse training, expenses for student participatory activities such as exhibitions and workshops will also be supported.
Applications can be submitted from the 17th to 5 p.m. on the 25th of next month, and detailed information can be found on the talent development project website. Results will be announced at the end of June through document and presentation evaluations.
