Maintenance of Utility Pole Obstructing Traffic at 49-14 Bon-dong, Dongjak-gu
Resolving Inconveniences for Nearby Residents Such as Walking Difficulties and Vehicle Traffic Issues Through Relocation Work
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Chang-woo Lee) announced on the 26th that it has reorganized a utility pole that was located in the middle of a narrow alley, causing inconvenience to nearby residents.
The relocated utility pole was installed in the center of a narrow alley at 49-14 Bon-dong, causing not only pedestrian inconvenience but also blocking vehicle traffic, which led to continuous complaints from local residents.
In response, the district office closely coordinated with KT to promote the relocation of the utility pole to resolve residents' inconveniences.
The existing utility pole blocked the center of the alley, making it impossible for fire trucks to enter, which could have led to a major accident in case of a fire. However, with this relocation, a pleasant walking environment and residents' safety have been secured.
In the same manner, the district has completely removed two utility poles and relocated six poles to walls as much as possible last year, maintaining 7 to 8 poles annually. Together with the ‘Overhead Cable Maintenance Task Force’ composed of Korea Electric Power Corporation, KT, and telecommunications operators, they maintain 15 to 20 km of overhead lines annually.
Kim Eun-rye (45), a resident of Bon-dong, said, “Because of the utility pole, vehicle access was impossible, so when moving, I had to carry all my belongings by cart, which doubled the moving costs and caused a lot of inconvenience. I am very happy that this long-standing issue has been resolved.”
