View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] Regarding the fact that Lee Seong-yoon, the Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, is being considered as a candidate for Prosecutor General, the People Power Party strongly criticized him on the 26th, calling him "someone who should never be a prosecutor."
Joo Ho-young, acting party leader and floor leader of the People Power Party, targeted Lee at the emergency countermeasure meeting that day, saying, "He is someone who cannot become Prosecutor General," and pointed out, "He is the person who blocked investigations through excessive abuse of power at the level of prosecutorial manipulation."
He added, "Even putting aside the privilege of refusing to appear four times in his own investigation related to illegal travel bans, he was the person who rolled up his sleeves to act as a blatant bodyguard and leader of actions in unfavorable cases for the administration, such as the Blue House's interference in the Ulsan mayoral election and the Optimus case involving key figures of the ruling party," and said, "He was also a leading figure in the ousting of former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol."
Seong Wan-jong, an emergency countermeasure committee member, also said at the same meeting, "Minister of Justice Park Beom-gye said about the new Prosecutor General appointment criteria, 'Since the president appoints, there will be a strong correlation with the president's state affairs philosophy,'" and asked, "Was former Prosecutor General Yoon removed because he did not realize the president's philosophy of fairness and justice?"
Seong continued, "Minister Park's words ultimately mean an instruction to appoint Lee, who has been the most loyal presidential dog within the prosecution, as Prosecutor General," and said, "The newly appointed Prosecutor General will spend half of the two-year term with the next president. If appointed according to President Moon's state affairs philosophy, does that mean the Prosecutor General should step down after President Moon's term ends? Does this mean they do not understand the principle of the law that the Prosecutor General should serve the people and the spirit of the fixed term?" expressing strong criticism.
