The human documentary "Run Toward Your Dream!" by the Living Lab team "Cheonman Gwan-gyeok" from the Department of Media Communication at Dongmyung University was selected for Seoul KBS’s viewer participation production program "Open Channel" and was broadcast nationwide on the KBS channel at 1 p.m. on the 22nd.
"Cheonman Gwan-gyeok" is a Living Lab team guided by Professor Jeong Mi-young, with assistant director Lee Byung-hoon, editor Kwon Dae-young, and students Choi Chang-rok, Lee Soo-hyun, and Oh Hae-rim participating in filming.
The team previously attracted attention by screening a barrier-free version with audio description and subtitles for the visually and hearing impaired at the 2nd Developmental Disability Human Rights Film Festival hosted by the Busan International Barrier-Free Writers Association, the first of its kind nationwide.
They also achieved results such as winning a special award at the 2020 Nouvelle Vague Film Festival and Academic Festival of the Department of Media Communication at the university, and passing the preliminary round of the 2020 TU-Living Lab performance presentation.
The Cheonman Gwan-gyeok team, which challenged the 2020 TU-Living Lab project that deeply engages in solving social reality problems and proposes solutions, is presenting an eye-catching project.
Professor Jeong Mi-young of the Department of Media Communication, who directly planned and directed the developmental disability human documentary, said that the students’ interest in solving social problems was sparked by linking the barrier-free version’s audio description course with the Living Lab.
Last year, amid the COVID-19 situation, the Cheonman Gwan-gyeok team participated in the Living Lab to produce a developmental disability human documentary, capturing the image of people with developmental disabilities improving awareness and running toward their dreams.
Most people hold negative views and stereotypes about people with disabilities, but this team is changing fixed ideas by showing how people with disabilities overcome difficulties and adapt to social life.
Living Lab is a public-private-citizen collaborative convergence activity that goes beyond campus walls to explore real society, identify problems, and propose solutions.
So far, Dongmyung University has had 28 participants in 6 teams in 2018, 131 participants in 24 teams in 2019, and in 2020, 172 participants in 29 teams from 13 departments across six fields including tourism, education, environment, health, safety, and welfare.
