Ministry of the Interior and Safety Selects Two Venture-Type Organization Innovation Projects Including 'Standardization of Foreigners' Identity Information'
Each Ministry Submits 17 Innovation Tasks, 2 Tasks Selected Through Online Public Review and Expert In-Depth Evaluation
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 26th that it has selected two innovative idea projects to be promoted as venture-type organizations this year: standardization of foreigner identity information and establishment of an AI-based automatic inspection system for imported food products.
A venture-type organization is an innovative organization introduced to encourage creativity, an innovation culture, and bold challenges in the public service sector, actively supporting these efforts. Civil servants themselves propose ideas for policy and service innovation, form dedicated teams, and implement them into actual policies and services.
Seventeen innovation project demands were submitted from each ministry. After the first round of document screening, five candidate projects were selected. Through online evaluation involving 3,461 general citizens via ‘Gwanghwamun 1st Street’ and in-depth evaluations by internal and external experts, two projects were finally selected.
The standardization of foreigner identity information is an idea to enhance accuracy by standardizing foreigner identity information, which is individually operated by each ministry, using foreigner entry inspection records, and to utilize it government-wide through a comprehensive foreigner information platform.
The AI-based automatic inspection system for imported food products is an idea to implement intelligent food safety management services in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, including an AI-based automatic document inspection system for imported food products and automatic verification of imported food safety information using QR codes.
The selected venture-type organizations will be operated as temporary organizations for two years after going through the revision process of each ministry’s organizational enforcement rules in June, and will focus on realizing innovative ideas from the public’s perspective.
Depending on the conditions of each ministry, the venture-type organizations will support various preferential measures to focus on implementing innovative ideas, such as appointing the idea proposer as the head of the department, rights to recruit and select excellent personnel, preferential treatment in personnel and salary upon achievement of results, autonomous performance reporting, and flexible working conditions.
