Chinese Public Security Authorities Collect Blood Samples...Focus on Vaccine Association
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunwoo Lee] A Korean expatriate in her 40s living in Shanghai, China, was found dead at her home just three days after receiving a Chinese-made COVID-19 vaccine. Since there were no underlying health conditions or signs of foul play, it is reported that the possibility of death due to vaccine side effects is being considered.
According to the Korean community in Shanghai on the 22nd, the family discovered the 40-year-old Korean woman, identified as Ms. A, deceased in her bedroom that morning. Ms. A had received a COVID-19 vaccine on the 19th at Tongren Hospital, a vaccination center designated for foreigners in Shanghai. The vaccine was reportedly developed by China’s Sinopharm.
Ms. A, who was generally healthy without any special underlying conditions, reportedly experienced discomfort such as nausea after the vaccination. The Chinese public security authorities conducted an on-site investigation and found no apparent signs of foul play, and blood samples were taken from the deceased. It is expected that an investigation will be conducted to determine whether the death was caused by vaccine side effects.

Earlier, the Chinese government announced that from last month, foreigners residing in major cities with large foreign populations, including Shanghai, could receive COVID-19 vaccinations. However, when receiving the vaccine, individuals must sign a waiver accepting all risks, including side effects, as their own responsibility. Following the news of Ms. A’s death, who had no underlying conditions, it is reported that some Korean expatriates are canceling their COVID-19 vaccinations.
