Seegene Supplies COVID-19 Diagnostic Kits to Scotland...247 Billion KRW Deal
Supply to 9 Major Hospitals in Scotland
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Seegene announced on the 22nd that it will supply COVID-19 diagnostic kits worth approximately 16 million pounds (about 24.7 billion KRW) to Scotland, UK.
Since this month, Seegene's local distributor has started supplying COVID-19 diagnostic products through the National Health Service (NSS) under the Scottish government. The kits will be supplied to nine major hospitals in Scotland, including the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh (RIE) located in Edinburgh. This supply is the largest scale bid for COVID-19 diagnostic reagents conducted by the Scottish government since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Seegene, which recorded sales of about 8 billion KRW in Scotland last year, is expected to achieve sales more than three times that amount with this supply alone.
The COVID-19 diagnostic kits supplied to Scotland by Seegene received European CE certification in June last year and formal approval from the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in December. In addition, Seegene is also anticipating the entry of other diagnostic reagents, such as recently developed COVID-19 variant diagnostic products, into the Scottish market. Another encouraging factor is that Seegene's PCR equipment has been installed in the nine hospitals supplied with Seegene's diagnostic kits through this contract.
Meanwhile, Seegene has developed two types of diagnostic kits capable of detecting infections of various COVID-19 viruses, including variants. On the 12th, it received export approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and is currently exporting to 23 European countries including the UK, Germany, and France.

Lee Ho, Head of Sales and Marketing at Seegene, said, “Seegene's diagnostic kits can accurately diagnose infections of a relatively larger number of COVID-19 viruses, which is why large-scale supply contracts overseas are increasing. We expect that this contract will accelerate entry into additional overseas markets, not only in Europe including Scotland.”
