1706 Pass Bar Exam This Year... Ministry of Justice "Strengthening Exam Management"
[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] The final number of successful candidates for the 10th Bar Examination has been decided at 1,706. The Ministry of Justice plans to introduce improvement measures to resolve controversies that arose during the exam process.
On the 21st, the Ministry of Justice announced, after deliberation by the Bar Examination Management Committee, that the number of successful candidates for the '10th Bar Examination' was set at 1,706.
The Management Committee determined the number of successful candidates within a range of at least 75% (1,500 people) of the total admission quota of law schools. The criteria included ▲the number and pass rate of successful candidates in previous bar exams ▲the purpose of introducing law schools ▲changes in the number of examinees ▲the supply and demand situation of legal professionals ▲the number of legal professionals in major foreign countries ▲changes in population and economic scale ▲academic management status and grading results.
This number of successful candidates is 62 fewer than last year (1,768), but the pass rate slightly increased to 54.06% compared to 53.32% the previous year. The total number of examinees was 3,156, a decrease of 160 compared to the previous year.
The pass rate for the 10th graduating class this year also rose to 74.83% from 74.52% last year. Approximately 88% of the 6th graduating class (admitted in 2014), who are subject to the 5-year and 5-attempt limit starting this year, have obtained bar qualification.
By gender, 985 males (57.74%) and 721 females (42.26%) passed. By major, 475 law majors (27.84%) and 1,231 non-law majors (72.16%) were successful.
The Management Committee plans to introduce the 'CBT (Computer Based Test)' system for answer writing and to improve the fairness of the exam by appointing a chairperson for each subject’s question committee to create questions focusing on fundamental and core issues.
Additionally, to ensure predictability for prospective bar exam candidates, the committee will deliberate on the '11th Bar Examination passers' decision next year based on the current bar exam passers' decision.
