Changwon City Hosts 'Bicycle Commuting Competition'
Spreading the Atmosphere of Practicing Green Living to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions on Earth Day
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Changwon City in Gyeongnam is conducting the '2021 Bicycle Commuting Challenge' for one month from April 22 to May 21 in celebration of the 51st Earth Day.
The 'Bicycle Commuting Challenge' is an annual citizen participation campaign aimed at reducing traffic volume and responding to the climate crisis.
In the first half of the year, the city conducts it independently, and in the second half, it will be held simultaneously with 12 cities nationwide.
Anyone can participate in this challenge, and by downloading the EcoBike app on their smartphone and running the app while riding a bicycle, stamps and points are accumulated.
The top 30 performers during the event period will receive Nubijeon worth 30,000 KRW. A prize draw will also be held for all participants.
In response to the climate crisis and to save the planet, the city will attach stickers with the slogan "Carbon Neutrality 2050 Starts Now, Beginning with Changwon" to 3,900 public rental bicycles called Nubija.
Meanwhile, last year in the Bicycle Commuting Challenge, 12 cities including Changwon, Gwangju, Daegu, Daejeon, Suwon, and Jeonju competed, and Changwon was selected as the top city in the commuting category.

A total of 542 participants rode 104,816 km, achieving a reduction of 22,315 kg of greenhouse gases (equivalent to planting 3,381 trees).
