Mayor Heo Seong-mu Repeatedly Urges the Enactment of the 3·15 Uprising Special Act
Restoration of Honor for Participants in the March 15 Uprising, the Earnest Wish of Democratic Sanctuary Changwon
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Changwon City, Gyeongnam Province, reiterated on the 21st that the enactment of the "Act on the Restoration of Honor and Compensation for Persons Related to the March 15th Uprising" is essential for uncovering the truth about the March 15th Uprising and restoring the honor and compensation of related persons.
Mayor Heo Seong-mu sent a letter in February proposing the enactment of the "Act on the Restoration of Honor and Compensation for Persons Related to the March 15th Uprising" to the National Assembly and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
To expedite the review and passage of the "March 15th Uprising Special Act," he directly requested support from Seo Young-kyo, Chairperson of the Administrative Safety Committee, and Han Byung-do, Chairperson of the First Subcommittee on Bill Review.
Additionally, on March 3rd, he proposed to Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun, who visited the site of the March 15th Uprising plaque and symbolic space creation project, that the special law for the March 15th Uprising be enacted.
He once again called on the National Assembly and organizations related to the March 15th Uprising to unite their efforts so that the review and submission of the "March 15th Uprising Special Act" can be approved at the First Subcommittee on Bill Review of the National Assembly's Administrative Safety Committee scheduled for the 22nd.
Mayor Heo said, "The enactment of the March 15th Special Act is essential to reestablish the status of the March 15th Uprising through a reevaluation of this event, which is the starting point of South Korea's democratization history," adding, "We will strive to enact the 'March 15th Uprising Special Act' to provide a legal basis for restoring the honor and status of those related to the March 15th Uprising."
