The Lunchbox of Isolated Soldiers Filled with Anger
[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] A soldier presumed to belong to a brigade under the 51st Division has sparked controversy among netizens by posting photos of substandard meals on Facebook.
On the 21st, according to the Facebook page 'Delivering Army Training Center Messages,' the poster uploaded on the 18th a message stating, "Substandard meals are being provided to soldiers who are under mandatory quarantine as a preventive measure against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) after returning from leave," along with photos of meals served in disposable lunch boxes.
The poster also said, "We have to surrender our cell phones, there is no TV, and the meals are like this?how is this different from a prison cell? Is it a crime to have taken leave?" and added, "I am curious about how meals are served in other units."
The military authorities are implementing cohort quarantine measures for soldiers returning from leave during the same period, even if they have tested negative for COVID-19 before returning, to prevent the spread of the virus. Accordingly, meals are provided in disposable lunch boxes to quarantined soldiers for hygiene and infection prevention.
However, some argue that the issue of 'substandard meals' is not limited to quarantined soldiers.
