Gwanak-gu Disabled Center to Open in the First Half of Next Year... Commendation for Welfare Contributors for the Disabled in Gwanak-gu
Encouragement of Organization Chairpersons Who Worked Hard to Improve Local Disability Welfare and Awarding of Commendations to 15 Contributors to Disability Welfare
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) held a commemorative event for the 41st Disabled Persons Day on the afternoon of the 20th at the Gwanak-gu Comprehensive Welfare Center for the Disabled.
This event was organized to express gratitude to those who have worked hard to improve welfare for the disabled by awarding commendations to 15 welfare contributors and encouraging the chairpersons of disabled persons' organizations.
The event was conducted in strict compliance with quarantine rules, with only the minimum number of attendees including welfare contributors and chairpersons of local disabled organizations, to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Meanwhile, the district is implementing customized projects to improve the quality of life for about 20,000 disabled residents and 50,000 family members of the disabled in the area, and to build a community where disabled and non-disabled people can live together.
Various projects are underway, including the establishment and operation of a Disabled Family Support Center to meet the welfare needs and strengthen the capabilities of families with disabled members, support for transportation volunteer vehicles, informatization and sign language education, repair of assistive devices for the disabled, and home repair projects for low-income disabled individuals.
In particular, last October, the district invested 6.1 billion KRW to purchase the site of the Sign Language Interpretation Center, which was city-owned land, and is promoting the construction of the (tentatively named) Gwanak-gu Disabled Center, a building with one basement and six floors above ground, with a total floor area of 681㎡, aiming to open in the first half of next year, thus making efforts to build infrastructure for disabled facilities.
