According to the Ministry of Justice, former President Lee was discharged on the same day after undergoing a thorough examination at Seoul National University Hospital. He was re-admitted to Seoul National University Hospital on the 16th to treat chronic illnesses such as diabetes.

Former President Lee is currently serving a prison sentence after the Supreme Court confirmed a 17-year imprisonment, a fine of 13 billion KRW, and a confiscation of 5.78 billion KRW on charges including bribery under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes last October.
