The Corruption Investigation Office Completes Investigator Recruitment... Only 20 Selected Initially
[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] The High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Agency (HCIA) has completed the recruitment of investigators following the hiring of prosecutors. Although the initial plan was to recruit 30 investigators, the final number of successful candidates was 20.
On the 19th, HCIA announced that a total of 20 investigators were finally selected: 5 at grade 5, 9 at grade 6, and 6 at grade 7. The successful candidates will undergo a disqualification check before being officially appointed by the HCIA chief.
Previously, HCIA publicly recruited investigators through a competitive career hiring process. The application submissions included 3 candidates for Secretary (grade 4), 82 for Prosecutor Assistant Manager (grade 5), 165 for Prosecutor Supervisor (grade 6), and 38 for Prosecutor Assistant Supervisor (grade 7), totaling 288 applicants.
Among these, for the grade 4 and grade 7 document screening, since the number of applicants did not exceed five times the planned number of recruits, 31 candidates who met the qualifications (2 for grade 4 and 29 for grade 7) were passed. For grades 5 and 6, where the number of applicants exceeded five times the planned recruits, some candidates were eliminated, resulting in 92 passing (40 for grade 5 and 52 for grade 6). Consequently, a total of 123 candidates passed the document screening for grades 4 through 7.
To enhance fairness and objectivity during the document review process, HCIA appointed all screening committee members as external members. The interview exams were conducted from the 5th to the 12th, and with 13 candidates withdrawing mid-process, a total of 110 participated in the final interview, resulting in 20 final selections.
An HCIA official stated, "The method and timing of future investigator recruitment will be decided by comprehensively considering the urgency of recruitment, internal consensus, and the conditions for conducting the hiring process."

Meanwhile, HCIA also experienced a shortfall in the prosecutor recruitment, ultimately selecting 13 candidates. Initially, the plan was to hire 4 chief prosecutors and 19 regular prosecutors, but due to a lack of suitable candidates, only 2 chief prosecutors and 11 regular prosecutors were finally selected.
