Seocho-gu Developmentally Disabled Young Artists Trio Hold Group Exhibition at Rhythm Garden
Exhibition Held at 'Seoripul Youth Art Gallery' from April 13 to 30
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seocho-gu (Mayor Jo Eun-hee) will hold a group exhibition of three resident artists (Kim Tae-min, Yeon Ho-seok, Jung Young-eun) from the ‘Seocho-gu Hanuri Information Culture Center Art Creation Studio’ at the ‘Seoripul Youth Art Gallery’ from the 13th to the 30th of this month.
This exhibition, co-hosted by the ‘Seocho-gu Hanuri Information Culture Center’ and the ‘Seocho Cultural Foundation,’ is a group exhibition of young artists with developmental disabilities residing at the art creation studio ‘Gallery Hwal (活)’ of the Hanuri Information Culture Center, a welfare center for the disabled in Seocho-gu.
Under the themes ‘There was the primal rhythm’ and ‘All living things are born from rhythm,’ each artist visualized rhythm to express their unique worldview.
Artist Kim Tae-min conveys inspiration drawn from nature through vivid colors and brushstrokes; artist Yeon Ho-seok expresses nature using basic geometric shapes based on his excellent sense of color; and Jung Young-eun’s watercolor works of sewn dolls and various props share the artist’s unique worldview with viewers through patchwork visualizations of various props received from his mother during childhood.
This exhibition holds great significance as it transcends the walls of prejudice, showing that these young artists with disabilities have overcome their own limitations not simply as disabled artists but as passionate young artisans of art.
In addition, the district will hold the ‘Seocho Hanuri Hanmaeum Sharing’ festival event in celebration of the 41st Disability Day. Due to COVID-19, this event will be held online and will feature congratulatory performances by the Seocho Hanuri Orchestra and Youth Orchestra, congratulatory messages from disability organizations, awards for exemplary persons with disabilities, and the distribution of commemorative gifts to local disabled individuals struggling with COVID blues.
The event will be broadcast live at 11 a.m. on April 20, Disability Day, via the disability-specialized internet channel ‘Chamsae TV.’

Seocho-gu Mayor Jo Eun-hee said, “The exhibition of these young artists with developmental disabilities was organized as part of efforts to support and activate diverse social participation activities of talented young people with disabilities. Since it is held during the week of the 41st Disability Day, I hope this exhibition will serve as an opportunity to improve awareness of disabilities and break down barriers of prejudice. I also hope it becomes a stepping stone for those who may be marginalized to have ‘their own work,’ become independent, and dream of tomorrow.”
