This contest is part of a tripartite business agreement signed last March among the Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled, Seoul National University Dental Hospital, and Starbucks, aiming to realize social value through promoting employment for persons with disabilities and spreading awareness. Starbucks had previously pledged to conduct various campaigns for continuous disability awareness improvement through the operation of the 'Seoul National University Dental Hospital Store,' which opened in December last year.
The contest was planned to provide young people with disabilities an opportunity to fully demonstrate their abilities and utilize their works in various ways, thereby positively influencing the local community. It is meaningful in that young people with disabilities directly participate in the contest.
Under the theme "Together," a warm message of encouragement for a world where we live together, participants are asked to design a drawing expressing a society where people live together or a warm heart that cares for and cherishes each other, along with a message of up to 30 characters expressing its meaning.
Eligibility is open to registered persons with disabilities under the Disability Welfare Act, aged between 19 and 34, who wish to express their thoughts through drawing. Applicants must submit an application form along with a copy of their artwork on the online site. The first 300 participants will receive a Starbucks tumbler.
After various expert evaluations, one grand prize winner will receive a prize of 3 million KRW, two gold prize winners will receive 1 million KRW each, five silver prize winners will receive 500,000 KRW each, and ten bronze prize winners will receive 100,000 KRW each.
Moreover, the winning works will be applied as Starbucks creative tumbler designs and displayed in some stores such as the Starlight Art Museum located at the Starbucks Gwacheon DT store and the Seoul National University Dental Hospital store, as well as used in various disability awareness improvement campaigns.
Meanwhile, Starbucks opened the Seoul National University Dental Hospital store in December last year, the first in Korea to embody the social value of promoting employment for persons with disabilities and improving disability awareness. Among the 12 staff members at the store, six, or half, are partners with disabilities.
