Seoul Facilities Corporation to Offer Free Disabled Call Taxi Service on the 20th for 'Disability Day'
Applications Available via Mobile App, Internet, and Phone
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul Facilities Corporation announced on the 16th that it will provide free rides on disability call taxis in celebration of Disabled Persons Day on the 20th.
The corporation plans to operate disability call taxis free of charge for 24 hours from midnight to midnight on the 20th. Disability call taxis are available to those with walking disabilities and severe disabilities (previously grades 1 to 3). Before COVID-19, in addition to free rides on Disabled Persons Day, the corporation used to hold 'city tours' to museums and parks, but citizen participation events have been temporarily postponed due to social distancing measures.
Additionally, the corporation is preparing bus support services for disabled customers to receive COVID-19 vaccinations. Since June last year, it has been providing mobility convenience by utilizing two 'disability buses' operating for wheelchair users registered as disability call taxi customers.
Efforts to expand the scale of operations through increasing the number of disability call taxis and improving actual operation rates are bearing fruit. The average waiting time has been significantly reduced from 55 minutes in 2019 to 24 minutes currently.
Moreover, by linking past operation data with real-time traffic conditions, the system notifies users of the expected waiting time after requesting a disability call taxi, helping to reduce psychological discomfort.
