Women with Disabilities Wing Support is part of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) activities and is the first customized assistive device support project for women with disabilities in Korea, launched last year. It is operated with the ‘LG Household & Health Care Happy Smile Fund’ established by donations from LG Household & Health Care employees’ partial salaries and the company’s matching fund, with the Gyeonggi Rehabilitation Engineering Service Research Support Center participating as a cooperating institution.
Any woman with a disability aged between 19 and 65, residing in Seoul or Gyeonggi Province, who is engaged in social activities or raising children, can apply. Applications can be submitted by email or mail to the Gyeonggi Rehabilitation Engineering Service Research Support Center by the 21st.
LG Household & Health Care and the Beautiful Foundation will select 25 women with physical disabilities, brain lesion disabilities, or visual impairments and provide assistive devices worth approximately 5 million KRW per person. The Gyeonggi Rehabilitation Engineering Service Research Support Center, Korea’s first specialized assistive device institution, will provide customized assistive devices through individual consultations, as well as training on usage and aftercare.
Assistive devices can be applied for in two categories according to the life cycle of women with disabilities: ‘Childcare Support Type’ and ‘Social Participation Type.’ Customized assistive devices tailored to each applicant’s characteristics and situation, such as vehicle modification, special keyboards, braille information terminals, height-adjustable baby beds, and voice recognition lighting, will be provided to enhance usability.
Kwon Chan, Secretary General of the Beautiful Foundation, stated, “By lowering the barriers to childcare and social life, we hope this will be a great opportunity for women with disabilities to discover their own potential.”
