Gyeongnam Provincial Assembly: "Fukushima Nuclear Plant Contaminated Water Discharge, An Unacceptable Measure"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] As the Japanese government has decided to discharge radioactive contaminated water stored at the Fukushima nuclear power plant site into the ocean, the Gyeongnam Provincial Council urged, "Japan must immediately withdraw the decision."
On the 14th, the Gyeongnam Provincial Council issued a statement saying, "Since the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, an average of 170 tons of contaminated water has been generated daily, and currently, the contaminated water amounts to as much as 1.25 million tons," adding, "They plan to release this into the sea over 30 years starting from 2023."
They continued, "This decision by the Japanese government was made unilaterally without any consultation or understanding with our country, the closest neighboring nation," and raised their voices, saying, "As a result, the right to life of residents in Pacific coastal cities, including Gyeongnam, will also be threatened."
