604 Confirmed Cases by 6 PM... Nationwide Surge of Cluster Infections

178 More Than Previous Day... 218 New Confirmed Cases in Seoul Alone

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] As the spread of COVID-19 continues domestically, confirmed cases are surging nationwide.

According to health authorities and local governments including Seoul City, from midnight to 6 p.m. on the 13th, a total of 604 new COVID-19 positive cases were confirmed nationwide. This is 178 more than the 426 cases recorded at the same time the previous day.

On this day, 218 new cases were confirmed in Seoul alone. Among ongoing cluster infections, 5 new cases were related to an indoor sports facility in Gwangjin-gu, 2 each to an indoor sports facility in Seocho-gu and a restaurant in Dongdaemun-gu, 1 each to a religious facility in Eunpyeong-gu and a medical institution in Jungnang-gu (April), and 12 other cluster-related cases were newly reported.

Among new cases not classified as cluster infections, there were 93 cases from contact with other confirmed patients, 17 from contact with confirmed patients in other cities or provinces, and 84 cases with infection routes under investigation.

Cluster infections also occurred in various parts of Gyeonggi Province on this day. In Bucheon City, 13 residents and others tested positive for COVID-19. Of these, 9 were identified as family members or contacts of confirmed cases from Bucheon, Seongnam, and Seoul. The infection routes of the remaining 4 are still unknown, and health authorities are conducting epidemiological investigations.

In Uijeongbu City, 5 additional confirmed cases were reported at a private academy in Millak-dong, where a cluster infection occurred from the 10th to the 12th, including 3 students, 1 instructor, and 1 family member. This brings the total number of confirmed cases related to the academy to 11.

In Gimpo City, 7 residents and others tested positive for COVID-19. In Incheon City, a total of 26 cases were confirmed: 7 in Michuhol-gu, 6 in Yeonsu-gu, 4 in Seo-gu, 3 in Bupyeong-gu, and 2 each in Jung-gu, Namdong-gu, and Gyeyang-gu.

In Chungbuk Province, 26 confirmed cases occurred due to cluster infections. Among them, 19 cases were related to a church located in Mungwang-myeon, Goesan-gun.
