Earlier, on the 7th, election day, it was revealed that Song Eon-seok, a member of the National Assembly and former secretary to Kim Jong-in, former emergency committee chairman, kicked and verbally abused party officials in an internal meeting room after finding that his seat was not prepared at the central party headquarters where the vote counting situation room was set up, causing controversy.
At the emergency committee meeting that day, Acting Leader Joo said, "It is unacceptable that an incident occurred that poured cold water on the party's efforts for change and reform, especially when we should be lowering our stance and humbly approaching the people," adding, "Although the perpetrator apologized to the victim and the victim has pleaded for leniency, we will handle this according to principles as a public party."
He continued, "In response to the demands of the people and party members, we will immediately refer this to the Ethics Committee according to our party's constitution and regulations and follow the procedures," warning, "We will further strengthen ethical standards and hold accountable anyone responsible for even the slightest unfortunate situation."
