Bloomberg: "Twitter Halts Talks to Acquire Clubhouse"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] Twitter has discussed the possibility of acquiring the audio-based social networking service (SNS) Clubhouse with Clubhouse, Bloomberg News reported on the 8th, citing sources.
The two companies have been negotiating for several months, during which Clubhouse's corporate value was estimated at $4 billion (approximately 4.514 trillion KRW). Currently, discussions have been paused, and the reason for the halt is unclear, according to sources.
Twitter and Clubhouse did not respond to requests for confirmation regarding the acquisition talks.
Earlier, Bloomberg News reported that Clubhouse was discussing fundraising options with investors, keeping a corporate valuation of $4 billion in mind.
As negotiations with Twitter failed to progress further, it appears Clubhouse sought funding from other investors, the news agency said.
Launched in April last year, Clubhouse attracted attention with participation from Hollywood and famous entrepreneurs, leading to an explosive increase in users.
In response, existing SNS platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Microsoft's LinkedIn, and Slack are developing similar features to Clubhouse.
