[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] The Korea International Trade Association announced on the 7th that it held an 'Eco-friendly and Green New Deal Product Virtual Export Consultation' at the COEX Startup Branch in Seoul to support domestic eco-friendly companies' entry into the global ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) market.
At the consultation, 21 domestic companies in ESG-related fields such as solar panels and batteries, eco-friendly consumer goods and building materials, and eco-friendly equipment participated along with 14 buyers from five countries including China, Malaysia, and Vietnam.
A representative from Minyoung Paper, which produces eco-friendly straws made from food-grade paper materials, said, "Our flagship product 'MyPpall-dae' has been certified by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the global certification, testing, and verification company SGS," adding, "Since China banned the production and sale of disposable plastic straws from early this year and imposes sanctions such as business suspension or cancellation for violations, we plan to actively pursue entry into the Chinese market by turning this into an opportunity."

Kim Hyun-chul, head of the Global Marketing Division at the Trade Association, said, "Recently, the European Union (EU) has been pushing legislation that mandates environmental and human rights due diligence across the entire supply chain not only for European companies but also for overseas companies, making ESG a critical issue after COVID-19," adding, "In particular, as environmental issues such as carbon emission reduction have come to the forefront, interest and demand for eco-friendly and renewable energy products are increasing, which will present new opportunities for prepared companies."
