[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] On the 6th, National Assembly member Seo Dong-yong (Jeonnam Suncheon·Gwangyang·Gokseong·Gurye-eul) expressed his position regarding the real estate conflict of interest allegations and various controversies related to Mayor Jeong Hyun-bok of Gwangyang.
As the regional chairman of the Democratic Party, Seo Dong-yong apologized to the citizens of Gwangyang and the public for the controversies surrounding Mayor Jeong, who was affiliated with the party.
He confirmed that the party held an emergency supreme council meeting on the 2nd and decided to ‘expel’ Mayor Jeong, who expressed his intention to leave the party and refused to cooperate with the party’s ethics inspection team’s investigation. He repeatedly apologized for causing concern, anger, and frustration among the citizens due to the flood of allegations and controversies surrounding a party-affiliated local government head amid the public outrage over real estate speculation by public officials.
Seo said, “It is even more painful and regrettable that the leadership of the local community, which should comfort the public weary from COVID-19 and unite the community to overcome it, is at the center of controversy.” He added, “From now on, regarding misconduct by public officials, regardless of rank or political advantage, we will respond firmly so that citizens can accept it.”
