"Medical Quality Improved" Daedong Hospital Selected as First Institution for 'Efforts to Improve Medical Quality' Introduced by Ministry of Health and Welfare
Recognition of Medical Institutions with Over 15% Increase in Evaluation Scores Compared to Previous Year for Efforts to Improve Medical Quality
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Daedong Hospital (Director Park Kyung-hwan) was selected as an ‘Institution for Medical Quality Improvement Efforts’ in the ‘2020 Medical Quality Evaluation’ conducted by the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
The ‘Institution for Medical Quality Improvement Efforts,’ introduced for the first time this year, is selected when the evaluation score increases by more than 15% compared to the previous year, although the grade remains the same as the previous year.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare’s medical quality evaluation is a system that evaluates the medical quality of healthcare institutions annually to provide high-quality medical services to the public and awards subsidies to excellent medical institutions.
Daedong Hospital, selected as an institution for medical quality improvement efforts, is recognized as a healthcare institution striving to provide excellent medical services and will receive higher medical quality evaluation subsidies compared to general hospitals with the same grade until December 2021.
The 2020 medical quality evaluation was conducted on 344 general hospitals nationwide based on medical performance from January to December 2019.
It was evaluated with 52 indicators across six areas: patient safety, medical quality, publicness, delivery system and support activities, and research and development.
The institution for medical quality improvement efforts is selected based on the evaluation areas of ▲patient safety ▲medical quality ▲publicness ▲delivery system and support activities.
Kim Soo-hyung, head of the Appropriate Management Office at Daedong Hospital (specialist in cardiology), said, “Compared to tertiary hospitals such as university hospitals, general hospitals have relatively less investment and infrastructure, making it difficult to receive excellent grades in medical quality evaluations. However, as a result of Daedong Hospital’s continuous efforts over the past few years to improve the quality of medical services and create a safe treatment environment, we were able to overcome the limitations of a regional general hospital and achieve good results.”
