'Natural Disaster Risk Area Management Register' Released for the First Time in Busan
Systematic Management and Inspection of Summer Natural Disaster Human Casualty and Flood Risk Areas
Distributed to City Headquarters Departments, Districts, and Related Agencies ... Continuous Recording and Investigation of Disaster Situations
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] For the first time, a ‘management ledger’ for areas prone to natural disasters in the Busan region has been created.
Busan City (Acting Mayor Lee Byung-jin) announced on the 6th that it will create and distribute a ‘Natural Disaster-Prone Area Management Ledger’ to systematically manage natural disaster-prone areas distributed by district and county, and to efficiently conduct pre-monitoring during disaster preparedness stages to minimize damage from various disasters.
This is a response measure to the increasingly severe natural disasters caused by climate change. Last year, continuous monsoon rains and heavy downpours occurred, and two typhoons, ‘Maysak’ and ‘Haishen,’ directly passed through Busan causing significant damage.
To prepare for such situations, Busan City conducted a full survey of all 16 districts and counties and compiled the ‘Natural Disaster-Prone Area Management Ledger.’
The ledger contains detailed information for a total of 344 management cards, including ▲types of disaster-prone sites ▲location maps ▲on-site photos, and will be used as data for disaster prevention and preparedness in the future.
By mid-May this year, during the summer pre-preparation period, a full inspection by district and county will be conducted based on the ‘Natural Disaster-Prone Area Management Ledger.’
Additionally, in case of approaching typhoons, heavy rains, and other threats, it is expected to greatly assist the 205 administrative support area officers in towns, townships, and neighborhoods, as well as districts and counties, in efficiently conducting on-site inspections of disaster-prone areas.
The booklet will be distributed to the city hall’s main offices and bureaus, all 16 districts and counties, and related organizations. Busan City plans to continuously record disaster occurrences and conduct annual status surveys of disaster-prone areas for updates and improvements.
