Gyeongnam Province Promotes Spring Livestock Infectious Disease Vaccinations
Vaccination Support for 17 Types Including Cattle and Pigs
Administered Through Local Public Veterinarians
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Gyeongsangnam-do announced on the 5th that it will conduct vaccinations against livestock infectious diseases and dog rabies, which frequently occur in spring.
The province plans to invest 9.7 billion KRW in livestock quarantine project expenses, including the purchase cost of vaccines for 64 million livestock, blood sampling and correction costs for disease testing, and quarantine drug expenses.
Cattle will be vaccinated against seven types of diseases including epizootic fever, Akabane, zoonotic livestock infectious diseases such as anthrax and blackleg, which are prevalent in spring; pigs against four types including Japanese encephalitis; and dogs against rabies, and chickens against Newcastle disease, totaling 17 types of vaccinations.
Three types of drugs, including those for controlling mites that parasitize honeybees and cause significant damage to the beekeeping industry, will also be supported.
Livestock infectious disease vaccinations will be carried out by appointing veterinarians in the province as public veterinarians, prioritizing small-scale farms, and vaccination costs will be provided free of charge.
Farmers who wish to receive vaccinations can apply to the city or county (eup/myeon) where their farm is located.
For items such as pigs and chickens that can be self-vaccinated, preventive drugs can also be obtained from the Agricultural Technology Center.
Rabies vaccinations can be received at animal hospitals designated by the city or county. Designated animal hospitals can be checked on the city or county website or at the Agricultural Technology Center.
For mosquito-borne livestock diseases that frequently occur in spring, vaccinations should be completed before mosquito outbreaks to maximize preventive effects.
Additionally, it is important to vaccinate timely against seasonal diseases such as calf diarrhea.
