The Criminal Division 15 of the Incheon District Court announced on the 2nd that it sentenced A (34) to two years in prison on charges of special grievous bodily harm.
A was tried for throwing a beer glass at another customer B (54) at a restaurant in Ongjin-gun, Incheon, around 11:40 a.m. on July 24, 2017, causing B to lose sight in his left eye due to a ruptured eyeball.
A had scolded B, who was causing a disturbance complaining about the expensive alcohol prices, saying, "Let's just eat," and a quarrel began between them.
B briefly went outside the restaurant, then returned holding a broken soju bottle and sat down while cursing.
Unable to contain his anger, A threw a glass beer cup from the table at B.
The court stated, "Considering the method and result of the defendant's crime, the nature of the offense is serious," and added, "He fled despite knowing that an investigation was underway and has a prior record of probation for imprisonment for the same crime."
