View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] The High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Unit (HOCI) will hold its 3rd Personnel Committee meeting on the 2nd to select the final candidates for chief prosecutors.
On the afternoon of the same day, the HOCI Personnel Committee plans to select a final pool of chief prosecutor candidates, up to twice the number of the four available positions, at the Government Gwacheon Complex, and submit this list to the appointing authority, President Moon Jae-in. Previously, the final list of ordinary prosecutor candidates confirmed at the 2nd Personnel Committee meeting on the 26th of last month was already forwarded to the Blue House through the Ministry of Personnel Management.
According to the HOCI Act, HOCI prosecutors are finally appointed by the President upon recommendation from the Personnel Committee. The Personnel Committee includes Kim Jin-wook, HOCI Chief, Yeo Woon-guk, HOCI Deputy Chief, ruling party recommended members lawyers Na Ki-ju and Oh Young-jung, opposition party recommended members lawyers Yoo Il-jun and Kim Young-jong, and a chief-appointed member Professor Lee Young-joo of Seoul National University. Prosecutor recommendations are decided by a majority vote.

Once the prosecutor selection is completed and the rules for cases and affairs are established, HOCI will have the minimum requirements to commence investigations. After all prosecutor appointments are finalized, internal discussions will begin to initiate the first investigations. Chief Kim has repeatedly announced publicly that investigations will start in April, and it is reported that about 650 cases have been received since HOCI's launch.
