Wando County Office Weightlifting Team Wins 12 Medals at First National Competition This Year

View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 1st that its professional weightlifting team participated in the ‘2021 National Professional Weightlifting Championships’ and the ‘69th National Spring Men’s Weightlifting Competition’ held at Yongha Gymnasium in Yanggu, Gangwon from the 25th to the 31st of last month, winning a total of 12 medals: 5 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze.
Additionally, player Lee Yang-jae received the Best Male Athlete Award, and coach Seo Ho-cheol was honored with the Best Coach Award.
Player Lee Ji-ye, who competed in the women’s 71kg category, won three silver medals with 2nd place in snatch at 91kg, 2nd place in clean and jerk at 109kg, and 2nd place in total at 200kg. Player Lee Yang-jae, competing in the men’s 109kg category, achieved 1st place in snatch at 186kg, 1st place in clean and jerk at 230kg, and 1st place in total at 416kg, setting the highest record of the competition and receiving three gold medals along with the Best Athlete Award.
Player Kang Min-woo, who competed in the men’s 89kg category, won two gold medals and one silver medal with 1st place in snatch at 149kg, 2nd place in clean and jerk at 181kg, and 1st place in total at 330kg.
Player Kim Kyung-bin, competing in the men’s 102kg category, intended to participate for experience despite a back injury, and won three bronze medals with 3rd place in snatch at 80kg, 3rd place in clean and jerk at 100kg, and 3rd place in total at 180kg, raising expectations for better results in the next competition.
Coach Seo Ho-cheol said, “There was a lot of pressure as it was our first national competition since joining the Wando-gun Office professional weightlifting team, and I was worried because the players could not receive much support due to the no-audience event, but I am proud and thankful for their great performance.”
Governor Shin Woo-cheol expressed appreciation and encouragement, saying, “Despite the unfavorable training conditions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I thank coach Seo Ho-cheol and the players for their best efforts,” and added, “The county will provide active support and attention so that the Wando-gun Office professional weightlifting team can continue to achieve good results.”
