Suspect in 'Three Women Murder' Case Needs Recovery... Police Investigation Delayed
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] Police investigation into a man in his 20s who killed three women in a mother-daughter relationship and attempted self-harm at an apartment in Nowon-gu, Seoul, is expected to be somewhat delayed. As his discharge from the hospital is later than initially expected, the execution of the arrest warrant and the investigation may not be possible within this week.
According to the Nowon Police Station in Seoul on the 31st, Mr. A, a man in his 20s suspected of killing the three women, has undergone surgery and regained consciousness and is currently recovering. The police received a medical opinion that although Mr. A has regained consciousness, he still needs to recover a bit more in the hospital.
The police have obtained an arrest warrant for Mr. A but have not yet executed it due to his hospitalization. They also obtained a search warrant for the mobile phone Mr. A possessed and requested digital forensic work from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.
The police conducted a search of Mr. A’s residence in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, the previous day and additionally secured some mobile phones believed to have been used by him. It was confirmed that Mr. A lived there with his parents. The police plan to carry out digital forensic work on the mobile phones secured through this search if necessary.
On the 23rd, Mr. A visited an apartment in Junggye-dong, Nowon-gu, killed the three women in the mother-daughter relationship, attempted self-harm, and was transported to a nearby hospital. On the 25th, the police responded to a report from an acquaintance of the victims stating, "I cannot contact my friend," but when they arrived at the scene, the three women were already deceased. A weapon presumed to be the murder weapon was also found at the scene. It is known that Mr. A was acquainted with the eldest daughter who died.
The police are also considering investigating Mr. A while he is hospitalized. However, since he appears to be in a state where he can only answer simple questions and cannot respond at length, they plan to monitor his recovery status continuously before deciding whether to proceed with the investigation. On online communities, posts circulated suggesting that Mr. A may have confirmed the victims’ residence by visiting their home, which he met through an online game, and attaching Post-it notes. The police have checked this and concluded that it is unrelated to the case.
