Bucheon-si Selected for 'Smart Campus Challenge' Contest... Establishing a Safe PM Usage Environment
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province has been selected for the Smart Campus Challenge project, newly introduced this year, following the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Smart Challenge project.
The 'Smart Campus Challenge' is a project led by universities with participation from companies and local governments. It is a smart solution demonstration project that experiments with innovative ideas on campuses and nearby commercial areas and urban centers, linking them to commercialization such as startup creation for budding companies.
Following the project selection, Bucheon City will participate as a demonstration city from next month until December of next year and will receive support of up to 1.1 to 1.5 billion KRW.
Additionally, the city plans to promote the project aiming to enhance the safety and convenience of citizens using PM (Personal Mobility devices). This is to develop technologies such as PM safety management and accident prevention to protect the safety of citizens using PM and to increase pedestrian safety.
Accordingly, the city will collaborate with Hanshin University and companies to integrate innovative technologies such as IoT and data hubs.
Furthermore, the city plans to develop services for managing risk areas such as road damage and speeding to support safe PM operation, and accident handling support by analyzing videos and photos of accident sites. It will also manage risk factors by utilizing various urban information collected from PM.

Mayor Jang Deokcheon stated, "Through project promotion, we will combine data hub technology that provides collection and convergence analysis of various urban data with the existing smart city integrated platform." He added, "We also plan to develop PM safety management services and create a next-generation urban integrated operation platform standard model verified by universities and demonstrated by Bucheon City."
