[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Park Young-sun, the Democratic Party of Korea's candidate for Seoul mayor, has begun courting the votes of the 2030 youth demographic. On the 30th, Park announced real estate pledges aimed at young people, focusing her campaign on this group.
Visiting the Wangsimni Station area in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, Park announced the 'Seoul Declaration 6' and stated, "We will expand the eligibility for youth monthly rent support and increase housing supply for single-person households."
Park said, "A significant number of young people and single-person households live in monthly rental housing, resulting in low residential stability," adding, "We must improve the poor living conditions known as 'Jiokgo (basement rooms, rooftop rooms, and goshiwon dormitories)." She emphasized, "We will greatly expand the current monthly rent support for 5,000 young people."
She also promised, "In addition to the existing plan to supply 80,000 units of Cheongshinho Apartments by 2023, we will add 20,000 units of youth housing and work-residence integrated housing." She continued, "We will supply work-residence integrated housing, which combines office and living spaces, near subway stations or in 21 innovation growth clusters to enhance mobility and convenience."
Along with this, she added, "To supply housing that matches youth sensibilities, we will establish a 'Youth Housing Advisory Group' within SH Corporation and strive to improve the quality of housing for youth, single- and two-person households, and women’s safe housing."
