Poetry Reciter Kim Sook-hee Achieves Historic Victory as First to Win 10 Crowns at National Poetry Recitation Competition
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] At the 2021 Korea King of Kings Master Grand Prize National Poetry Recitation Contest, Kim Sookhee, a poetry reciter from Mokpo currently working as an English teacher at Haenam Technical High School in Jeonnam, won the grand prize.
This contest was open only to those who have won three or more national poetry recitation championships. It was widely announced on the cafes and internet sites of more than 45 poetry recitation associations and literary associations nationwide, and was hosted by the Seoul-based nonprofit organization New Generation Culture and Arts Exchange Association. It was held on the 28th at Myeongbo Art Cinema.
The contest was conducted to find Korea's top poetry reciter who, having already received the highest certification as a poetry reciter, continues to be recognized for active communication with the public and leads the flow of poetry recitation.
Kim Sookhee, the poetry reciter, is the current holder of the number one position as a multiple champion in national poetry recitation contests and received the 2020 Korea Highest Record Certification Grand Prize, which is awarded only to top record holders in each field.
With this victory, she achieved the great accomplishment of becoming the first poetry reciter to win 10 national poetry recitation championships?not just association or regional contests?and a total of 11 championships including association contests.

Having completed doctoral coursework in Creative Writing and currently writing a thesis on the works of poet Song Sugwon, Kim Sookhee is a holder of the prestigious career of President of the Seoul Kim Sowol Recitation Association and a recipient of the Proud Korean Figure Award. She actively pursues literary activities not only as a poetry recitation artist but also as a poet and essayist.
